It was no sunset but for the gilded trees of an unusually hazy and warm Autumn. The Kanji character for Autumn is 秋, which is composed by two symbols, the first looking like a 木 (tree) while the second is 火 (fire). I stopped the car to repeat a photo of a monastery-turn-hotel I made years ago with an ancient digital point-and-shoot, and much hopeless post-processing. I didn’t know then, that a castle was lurking in the golden mist, waiting patiently for the enemies marching up in the valley, or maybe just for the winter to come.
