Above Valencia, Venezuela (Dec 30, 2007)

Aerial view of the lake of Valencia, returning to Caracas from Mérida de los Andes. I like how the mists on the ground give such strong blue tint to the images. Rayleigh scattering... the same reason why the sky appears blue.

Apart for the physics of it, I like the effect just for its beauty. The landscape assumes magic proportions. One can imagine dragons rising from the mist, or rather a Nessy monster breaking the waves in the lake. It is like watching a different planet, a new world where all is possible. Which maybe is just what we need for this new year.
