Saorge, France (Jul 30, 2003)
This old house in Saorge was on sale. Saorge is a small and ancient village between France and Italy, hanging on the steep clifts of the Val Roya, in the Alps. The valley was one of the ancient trade routes connecting the mediterranean sea (and the city of Nice) with the italian inland plains. We passed by Saorge while driving from the village where my parents live (in the italian Alps) to Ventimiglia, which is on the border between Italy and France on the sea. Since it was almost lunchtime, we stopped at a very nice restaurant in Saorge overlooking the valley, and now I remember that lunch as one of the highlights of the trip.

how very lovely ... the composition is perfection and textures jut out and frame the delicate colour of flower : )
That tiny door is something. I like the vertical cut chosen.
No matter how bleak a house looks, a few potted flowers make it a home.
This is an interesting crop. From what you’ve shown us, the bright and cheery looking window is a nice contrast to the rest of the facade, which does look rather dull.
As for what you said about the lunch, I also always have vivid memories of good food from a trip. It’s hard to decide what matters more when I travel...the sights or the food!
