Saluzzo, Italy (Aug 20, 2006)
Saluzzo is an ancient town in Piemonte (northern Italy, not far from Torino), founded by a population living in the italian Alps and eventually conquered by the romans in 123 BC. During the middle ages and the renaissance it became an important center, capital of a small independent state. It is a beautiful little town to visit, with its characteristic medieval and renaissance architecture, among which the castle, the gothic cathedral and the Church of St. John (the belfry in the photo). The wall on the left side of the image is the base of the city tower, and the guy sitting in the shadow was the custodian selling the tickets for the building. And reading a book while waiting for somebody to show up in the hot summer day...

I love the lighting. The soft blur really makes this a stunning image.

I really like how the walls “frame” the tower. Normally I`d expect the lighter parts of the photograph to be dominant, but in this case, I saw the person first, and then the rest of the photograph.
What is he doing ? Looks like he`s using an old typewriter. Remember those? Like an acoustic version of “word”

This is beautiful. The framing and the lighting and the softness all contributes to such a relaxed feeling.
This is a great shot. Everything works. The Saluzzo Chamber of Commerce could use it to promote the town as a tourist attraction.
