Mt. Hopkins, AZ (Jul 17, 2006)

I am still working on the photos from Italy, so for the moment I am posting an older image shot in Arizona, from the terrace of the MMT observatory, ay Mt. Hopkins. As mentioned in a couple of previous posts, last time I was there I saw a lot of thunderstorms in the desert plains below. It is quite impressive to actually see the rain falling from the giant anvil clouds, while being at the same elevation of the clouds.

My favorite time of the year is monsoons - for this reason. The sites are spectacular.

What a huge landscape, you sure have an amazing vantage point. Nicely dealt exposure too, whites in the clouds are exactly that without the detail in the land being lost.

Amazing sky. The blues are great and they really emphsize the white of the clouds. Nice exposure.

Nice landscape. My first though was a nuclear cloud but fortunately its a far more benign subject. It must hold a huge amount of water!
