Vigna Rondetto, Chiusa Pesio, Italy (Aug 14, 2006)

My niece Alice in a rare moment in which she allowed me to photograph her (she wasn’t very keen to stay in front of a camera, this year, differently from last year when she actually enjoyed to pose for me). She wasn’t actually looking at the cats, as the title suggests, which is instead from a song written by the italian singer/author Francesco De Gregori. In absence of cats, I has to play all sort of tricks to get her forget about the camera in my hands. What tricks do you use to photograph kids?

She’s cute!

For children her age and older, showing them the picture preview on camera often gets them excited. For younger ones I jingle car keys, snap fingers, and try to move around a lot so they keep interested in me.

My best trick for photographing kids? Have my wife get their attention. She’s much better with kids than I am.
