At the head of the Valley of Merida, in Venezuela, there is a small road leading to the village of Piñango. The road crosses a region that is called “Paramo Andino”, which is a dry highland with an endemic vegetation very specific of the area. In our December vacation we only had time for a short excursion at the beginning of the road, where we stopped briefly, as the sunset was approaching and the mist was filling the valley, to watch the
frailejones growing all around us.
