Have you ever thought that all the roads are connected together? “The road goes ever on and on, down from the door where it began”. Yes it is one very long road, made by all the individual roads connected together.
Taken from the rocky pillar featured in a
previous entry, looking towards the
Pas du Duca. Still missing the mountains. Here in Pasadena there is a range of mountains in the distance, but they are barely visible because of the permanent haze that engulf the city.
Tonight I went at the reception for my meeting, which is at the Sheraton Hotel in Pasadena. Something weird happened, something I think can only happen in California. In the same hotel there was also the premiere of some Hollywood blockbuster (I don’t remember the title, some action movie I think). The reception for the premiere was in the room next to our reception.
In case you don’t know astronomers, well, let me tell you that they are not exactly the best dressed and groomed species around. Think of physicists (a la Einstein, with hairdo all over the place and a sweater that was in vogue five years before) that like to go on top of mountains in desert places to look at the sky, and you will get the idea. Even at conferences in fancy hotels, the dress code doesn’t change (yes, I have seen people going around bare feet, in shorts and T-shirt).
Well, the weird moment was when we were waiting to enter the room for our reception at the same time in which the movie stars and their following was entering the premiere... the contrast between the two crowds was quite apparent... I really wish I had the camera with me...
