In
Harvard Sq. in Cambridge (west side of the pond), in front of the
Holyoke center (one of the many
Harvard University buildings) there are marble tables which are the usual meeting point for the chess players of the city. This shot was made just before this match was ending. From the expression of the guy I believed he was losing the match, but now that I look at it he seems in quite a good position with his queen threatening the white king. Maybe a better chess player than me can comment on this...
I remember knowing about the chess players in Harvard Sq. much before actually going to live there, because of a
picture posted by
Philip Greenspun on his personal site about photography, which later on morphed into
Photo.net (in fact I discovered Phillip Greenspun not because photography, but because of his beautiful
Samoyed dog).
