The Alps between Switzerland and Italy, flying from Turin to London. The sharp mountain in the center is the
Matterhorn. The large glacier in the photo is the Gornergrat, whose valley opens over
Zermatt. I have been there several times, because on its side there is an infrared astronomical observatory (
TIRGO). It is a very nice place: from the site of the observatory you can see 14 mountains higher than 4,000m (12,000ft). I was once stuck there for more than 20 days: the weather was quite horrible and the only thing that we had plenty was
snow. There was so much snow that for a few days the train that reaches the observatory couldn’t get there.
