I love that the light hitting this dome is the same light that is hitting the orbitting moon in the background. Great shot.
Also, exciting news about OGLE! I wonder if they have photoblogs there?
Gracias por la explicación, sin duda el mundo de la astronomía es maravillso. Sobre la foto la luz esta excelente, la elección del b&w muy apropiada.
Really nice in B&W. It looks like an “old” photograph from the moon, showing the earth in the background.
Is this a long exposure ? It looks like it `s a night-shot, but the dome shines, and it wouldn`t if it was dark, would it ?
It is a daytime shot, around mid afternoon. The sky appears so dark because it was very blue (clean chilean sky) and I used a (digital) red filter.
i read about this discovery in the newspaper: exciting news, and even moreso, i imagine, for you in your field of expertise!
gorgeous tones in this image...
First of all great photo. The contrast is marvelous and the foreground really gives it a context. It reminds me of a still shot from a 1950s science fiction movie. The commentary seems to the layman (me) to be almost science fiction also. It’s quite amazing to bump up against this kind of knowledge and the esoteric means of acquiring it. Thanks for the info and for contributing to my “sense of wonder.”
Awesome - looks like a great place for photography and of course astronomy.
The photograph is the secondary interest in your post. I so enjoy reading your articles, such excitement and amazment in this discovery. What exiciting times we live in.
Wonderful tones in this image. I’ll certainly forward this post to my wife -- although since Katrina she’s doing taxes instead of running the planetarium (it was destroyed), she’s still fascinated by astronomy.
Rich and creamy tones here - reminds me of IR photography. I think matt blew my mind with his initial comment about the sameness of light - wow!
This shot looks unreal. The moon in the backround is cool too.
This is a great photo of the subject Massimo. Clean and simple composition, and the tones are bold and rich. Thanks for the educational read too.
Great photograph Massimo, beautiful tones in the black and white...a softness abouit the image that I like.
