I lived in Hawaii in the early 80s - politeness is not something I remember from those days. Of course, I was a young sailor on Oahu, the most crowded and popular of islands. Sailors and tourists were the ‘invading’ culture, and weren’t welcomed by locals. I wish I’d spent the time to explore the other islands.
I had only been on Oahu for a couple of days in 1999 (in Honolulu) and I remember it being quite different from the other Islands (I have since been in Maui and Big Island). Honolulu is a big city, not much different from the mainland big american cities. I didn’t like it. Instead, I found Big Island much more authentic and its people much more relaxed, tolerant and open to the others. The owner of the Bed and Breakfast where we stayed was a great guy that gave us a lot of hints on where to go to dine, with whom to dive, etc... always choosing the places where the locals would go, and we had good experiences all the time. But I can understand that in Oahu it could have been different.
I have always enjoyed the hospitality of friendliness of the Hawaiian people. My last visit was three weeks in Molokai, what a special Island, and truly special people. I am glad you so enjoyed your stay.
I can’t imagine having anyone say “sorry” at me just because they honked at me by mistake. Not in the main cities, anyway. The people of this place are really warm-hearted and that they are really hospitable. I think it’s in their nature to be kind and friendly. I only people in the busy cities were a bit like them.
A friend of mine (who also dives), told me that the feeling he got while breathing bottled air sometimes reminded him of the feeling he got while drinking fine champagne.
It`s worth a try. I also like the photograph. I love the tones, from white to black. NICE!
Having never been lucky enough to travel to Hawaii yet, I’m glad there are photographers like you who are able to capture its equisite beauty and share it with us. Such an incredible photo I can’t even put into words; simply amazing=)
Nice pictures!
If you’ll have a minute you should look on my blog: http://trilobit.blogspot.com/
Beautiful piece of sky. Sorry you had to leave. Seems like a place to stay, eh?
Estos tonos de blanco y negro se parecen mucho a lo de los grandes maestros de la fotografía, excelente...
Gorgeous photo, the clouds are magnificent. I’ve never been to Hawaii, but it’s moving up on my list rapidly.
Oh wow Massimo; you top yourself every time you take another picture!
I think coastal photography is your specialty (of course along with photographing from commercial airplanes) By the way, the “Lori” story is good! You should probably consider putting together your travel photos plus thoughts and stories one day.
Vacations sounds great! Good to read that you enjoyed it and nice to see your shots. Hope that some more will come soon!?!
Lovely landscape. I love the contrasting light in the sky. Lots of atmosphere!
Simply Superb! The range of depth and tone here is just amazing - fine work!
