It’s nice to be reminded of the wonder and beauty that surrounds us, and to see the world anew. I love that the little town is encapsulated in that one reflection.
I think the US is doing a great job saving lives down south and the pouring help is just amazing! It’s true the local authorities didn’t respond very well at first but I guess nobody was ready for such a blow! Maybe it’s really impossible to be ready for something of that magnitude…
I like to think that in case of the “big one” (earthquake) here in California I will be ready to take care of myself and my family and not rely on the government.
Fabulous image - several pictures rolled into one. Also, interesting interpretations - I tend to spread blame around a little more; the government yes, but the people who didn’t leave, the city for not preparing structurally, and we shouldn’t leave out the storm itself.
It is intersting to think how the world perceives the crisis - we spoke to a doctor in Taiwan who was looking to put together a team to send to New Orleans. . .though I’ve heard of much generosity, no one I know personally has picked up and responded by going (myself included first and foremost).
A ship in a bottle came to mind. Its an interesting image as there is so much depth with the reflection and the fisheye effect that opens up the world in front of the photograph. I hope you have a great time with your family - there is never enough time to enjoy their company when they live on the other side of the world. I relate because my family live far away too....
A beautiful photograpy that reminds me of Bergen, the city I was born in. How did you manage to not get your own reflection in the glass ? I know it wasn`t luck...
Actually, I am in the reflection, but so deformed by the huge curvature of the glass, that it is not easy to spot me. Right at the center of the reflection you can see the lenses of my camera, with behind something that may be me flattened between the two reflections.
The reflection of the reflections is beautiful. Rockport was on our list of places to visit when we were in Boston (Haverhill) visitng relatives, but it was just too much to do when Mad was only 3 years old. We made it to Gloucester and I fell in love with the place. The quaintness and the old time boating areas that I’ve only seen on movies was shockingly beautiful - just like Hollywood.
The US imagine will continue to go way downhill until Bush is gone. He’s a baboon.
Great reflection. I especially like the tonal contrat between the bright reflected image of the houses and the releatively dull background of the shake shingles.
such a beautiful image, it is always wonderful to be given the gift of a fresh new view (i hope your parents enjoy their trip and you enjoy them) .. the world makes me smile as much as it makes me frown and laugh as well as weep ... sigh ...
I hope you’re enjoying your family time. Wonderful reflection in this photograph - I must go to Boston one day!
Fabulous photo and then when I read your commentary and see the photo capturing both the fragility and the unreal beautiful town tourist view of america it just all comes togather so well, That’s what I love about your site.
This is a very cool photo -- and a great story to accompany it.
