As far as I know, CD/DVD’s are fairly stable aside from the normal scratch, bump, and heat factors. My big bone against them, is that once photos are on the disk and off the hard drive, I’ll never look at them again. One of my first tasks when I get back to America is to change over to your system. I suppose if you want to be super-safe, you could do both!
Absolutely beautiful place. I’d want to go back, too. I tend to have my discs in a place where I have to look at them. In addition, I try to do back-ups of the CDs/DVDs just to make sure I don’t lose it. That way I’m kind of forced to look at them.
the colours in this are stunning and I love how the puffy cloud synchs with the light blue swirl, very strong composition! ... my solution was to back up on dvds as well as a dedicated hard drive though now I’ve pretty much switched over to film so it’s not really an issue anymore
Great colors in this image!
I don’t trust CDs/DVDs, myself. I keep my current year’s images on my local drive, archive images on a network drive (actually, an older computer with a large hard drive), and both are backed up nightly to external drives. I use a USB drive enclosure populated with regular internal hard drives -- cheaper than externals.
Lovely colour, the shadows add a lot to the image.
I backup monthly to CD and weekly to an external hard drive.
This is lovely. I really like all the different blues in the scene.
Can’t give you advice here as I’m on the solution trail, also.
But I must say, this shot is stunning
As a friend of ours says, you don’t know and haven’t met “blue” until you have been to Los Roques. This picture does a pretty good job of showing what she means...
Definitely a postcard! I love that cool minty green in the center.
By the way, I just bought an external hard drive and so far it seems to be the best way to handle this growing number of photos. I also back up my photos on DVDs; one copy for me and one I send over to my friends in Connecticut
Gorgeous photo.
I like the extra hard-drive idea and will probably go to it soon. Right now I muddle through with CD back-ups, but on another level I have also sort of accepted the fact, while struggling against it, that photos are not pemanent. Like us in our present form. They will eventually get lost, forgotten about, the hard-drive will crash, the CD will get scratched. Non-attachment.
Great image!
I don’t feel safe relying only on CDs and DVDs for my pics. That’s why I also store them on an external hard disk (250gb) AND a portable one (40gb). Ciao! Add Comment
